Porta Potty Rental Questions and Answers
Plain answers to the questions people ask before renting a porta potty in Grand Island and central Nebraska: prices, timing, weekends, units, cleaning, placement and billing.
Each answer starts with the short version and ends with the conditions. Jump to a topic below. For job-specific questions, see the pages for construction, events and weddings.
Prices and billing
What is the all-in, out-the-door price for one porta potty?
One standard porta potty for a weekend event in Grand Island costs about $150 to $200, plus Nebraska sales tax. That covers delivery, up to 5 days on site and pickup. Outside Grand Island, add a one-time trip charge. Your quote shows the exact total before you pay.
Is that price per unit or for all of them?
Every price we quote is per unit. Delivery inside Grand Island is included per order, so three units on one trip do not pay three delivery charges. Outside the city, the trip charge is once per trip, not per unit.
If I need two, is it just double?
Two units cost twice the unit price, but the trip charge is paid once. Orders of 4 or more units on one delivery get a multi-unit rate.
Does the price include tax?
Quoted ranges are before Nebraska sales tax. Your itemized quote adds tax as its own line, so the total you approve is the total you pay.
Is the monthly price for the first month only?
Inside Grand Island, every 28-day cycle costs the same. Outside the city, only the first cycle carries the trip charge, so later cycles cost slightly less.
What does a 28-day cycle mean?
A 28-day cycle is our billing period for job-site and long-term units. It is four weeks with four weekly cleanings, not a calendar month. Thirteen cycles make a year.
Is there a contract for long-term rentals?
Long-term rentals have no contract. The cycle renews automatically until you call for pickup, and there is no early-termination fee.
Why did another company quote me $75 a week?
A low weekly number online often leaves out delivery, pickup, cleaning or removal fees, which show up later. Compare the full total, including every fee and tax, for the same dates.
Do you offer a military or first-time discount?
Active-duty, veteran and first-time customers can ask about our current offer when they call. Multi-unit orders and churches or nonprofits ordering 4 or more units get written multi-unit pricing.
Delivery, timing and weekends
How far in advance do I need to book?
Book standard units 3 to 7 days ahead for weekday jobs and 2 to 3 weeks ahead for May through September weekends. Restroom trailers need 2 to 8 weeks. Same-day is available when you call by noon on a weekday.
What time will the driver show up?
Deliveries run from 7 AM to 6 PM. We give a morning or afternoon window, and the driver can call ahead if you ask. Event units arrive the business day before your event, so the exact hour rarely matters.
Can you deliver the morning of my event and pick it up that night?
Same-day drop and same-night pickup is not offered, because drivers are off the road by evening. We deliver the day before and pick up the next business day at the same price.
My event is on a holiday Monday. When do you pick up?
Holiday-weekend units are picked up on the next business day, usually Tuesday. The package price stays the same.
Do I need to be home for delivery?
You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and the gate is open. Mark the spot with a flag, spray paint or a photo, and leave a phone number for the driver.
Do you deliver to rural addresses without a house number?
Rural sites, field entrances and campgrounds are fine. Send a GPS pin drop, a nearby road intersection or clear written directions.
Is there a weekend delivery charge?
Friday delivery for a weekend event has no extra charge. A Saturday-morning drop by request may add a small fee, shown on the quote.
Units and features
What's the difference between standard, sink and flushing units?
A standard unit has a seat, urinal and hand sanitizer. A sink unit adds a foot-pump sink. A flushing unit adds a foot-pump flush that rinses the bowl, plus a sink, soap and towels. None need water or power.
Does the sink unit need a water hookup?
Sink units carry their own fresh water in a tank and need no hookup. Guests pump water with a foot pedal or hand lever.
Does a standard unit come with hand sanitizer?
Every standard unit includes a hand-sanitizer dispenser and toilet paper. Event units also come with seat covers.
Do units have lights inside?
Portable units rely on a translucent roof for daylight. For night events, place them near a yard light or add a battery light. Restroom trailers have built-in lights.
Do you rent shower trailers or RV holding tanks?
Shower trailers and RV holding tanks are not part of our regular fleet. Call and we will tell you who in central Nebraska carries them.
Do you pump out porta potties or RV tanks I own?
Pump-outs of customer-owned units are available on route days near Grand Island. The price depends on tank size, so have the gallons ready when you call.
Are units on wheels?
Portable units have no wheels. Two people can move an empty unit a short distance with a hand truck, but please call us before moving a full one.
Do you have colors other than blue and gray?
Most units are blue or gray. A small number of pink units are available for themed events. Ask when you book.
Cleaning and servicing
Is cleaning included?
Weekly cleaning is included on every job-site and long-term rental. Event units are delivered clean and stocked. Mid-event cleaning is an add-on.
What happens during a cleaning visit?
The driver pumps the waste tank, washes and sanitizes the inside, recharges the tank with fresh water and deodorizer, restocks paper and sanitizer, and checks the door and level.
Can I get cleaning every two weeks for less?
Cleaning every two weeks is not offered, because a used unit left 14 days becomes a health and odor problem. Weekly cleaning is already in the price.
What if the unit fills up before cleaning day?
Call us and we schedule an extra cleaning on the next route day for a flat fee. If it keeps happening, a second unit usually costs less than repeated extra visits.
Does the unit smell?
A cleaned unit with a fresh deodorizer charge has little odor. Odor builds when a unit is overused, in full sun or between cleanings. Shade and the right unit count help.
Placement and access
What kind of ground does a porta potty need?
A porta potty needs flat, firm ground about 4 by 4 feet: a driveway, gravel pad, patio or level lawn. Avoid slopes, soft mud and septic fields.
How close does the truck need to get?
The service truck needs to park within about 30 feet of the unit. Its hose reaches about that far. Farther placements may need a different spot for cleaning.
Can it go in my backyard?
A standard unit fits through a gate at least 48 inches wide when we can carry it. The truck must still reach within about 30 feet for cleaning.
Will your truck damage my lawn?
Our trucks stay on the driveway or street whenever possible. On dry lawns, light tracks may show. On wet lawns, we place the unit near the drive instead.
Can I put a porta potty in a city park?
City parks need the park's approval. Some do not allow units overnight. Get the event permit or park approval before we deliver, and tell us any placement rules.
Should I lock the unit?
Units have a hasp for your padlock. Locking it after hours keeps out the public at parks and job sites. Leave the key or code for the cleaning driver.
Can it sit on the street in front of my house?
Units in the street or right-of-way need city approval. A driveway placement avoids the permit and keeps the street clear.
Booking, payment and cancellation
What do you need from me to schedule?
We need the delivery address or pin drop, dates, unit type and count, an on-site phone number, and payment. A photo of the spot helps.
How can I pay?
We take credit and debit cards, checks for businesses on account, and local payment apps by arrangement. Cash is accepted only at our office. We do not add a card fee.
Do I have to pay the whole amount up front?
Event rentals are paid in full when booked. Long-term rentals bill at the start of each cycle. Contractors can ask about net terms.
Will I get a confirmation?
You get a text or email confirmation with your dates, units, site address and total. If you do not see it within an hour, call us.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 48 hours before delivery for a full refund. Inside 48 hours, a trip fee may apply if the unit is already loaded. See our rental terms.
Can I extend my rental?
Call before your pickup date. Event rentals extend into a 28-day cycle or a second package. Long-term rentals simply keep renewing.
How do I end my rental and stop billing?
Call or text the main line with your site address. We schedule pickup, usually within 1–2 business days, and billing stops at the end of that cycle.
Are you a local company or a national call center?
Stuart Rental Works is a local, owner-operated company in Grand Island. When you call, you reach the people who schedule and drive the trucks, not a broker who resells another company's units.
Weather and seasons
Do porta potties freeze in Nebraska winters?
Units can freeze below about 20°F. From November through March, we add a brine or non-toxic antifreeze charge on each cleaning, at no extra charge, so the tank keeps working.
Do units blow over in the wind?
Empty units can tip in strong prairie wind. We stake or strap units on open sites and face doors away from the prevailing wind. Tell us if your site is exposed.
What happens if it rains on my event?
Rain does not hurt the unit. If you postpone, call before the delivery date. If the ground is soaked, we may place the unit on the driveway.
When is the busiest season?
May through June (graduations and weddings) and September through October (harvest, State Fair, fall festivals) book out first. Book 2 to 3 weeks ahead for those dates.
